As more dogs than ever are hitting the streets with Scamps walkers, we’re standardizing how we do things, including requiring that dogs be wearing inescapable equipment, such as martingale collars and harnesses, and muzzling up, when overstimulation may lead to accidents.

Martingale-type Collars and Harnesses are required
Slipped collars and shucked harnesses are needlessly stressful, even when the consequences are light.
To reduce the chances of losing a dog, we will only use “limited-slip” AKA martingale collars or harnesses when we walk your dogs.

These types of equipment have a section that tightens when the dogs pull. Adjusted correctly, dogs cannot twist, buck, or squeak out backwards. Not only are they safer, but we also use them to teach the dogs to walk gently.
Muzzles for safety – by request
New-to-you, nervous, or nippy dogs need walks too, and Scamps is your inclusive pet place (read about it). Muzzle training your dog (like crate training) gives you a tool for emergencies, and gives pups a chance to experience the world with a safety net.

A properly fitted muzzle not only prevents injuries from occurring, including choking on “food” they find on the floor, we see how it reduces dogs’ impulse to lunge in the first place. If your dog responds to scary or stressful scenarios with their teeth, resource guards, or dives for food, a muzzle for walks keeps everyone safer.
Coats for rain and snow (optional)
Recovering from walks in nasty weather is quicker when we can remove an outer layer. Pups stay dryer, so our space, and your home, stay cleaner. And the pups are cleaner, too. It’s an all-around win.

Look for simple designs that protect dogs’ core and powerful clasping mechanisms, over extras like leg sleeves or hoods. Remember, this equipment is going to get wet. And heavy. And dirty.
