New: Equipment Requirements

Martingale-type Collars and Harnesses Only

As more dogs than ever are hitting the streets with Scamps walkers, we’re standardizing how we do things, including requiring that dogs be wearing inescapable equipment, such as martingale collars and harnesses.

Reducing Escapes and Accidents

Slipped collars and shucked harnesses are needlessly stressful, even when the consequences are light.

To reduce the chances of losing a dog, we will only use no-slip collars or martingale harnesses when we walk your dogs.

These types of equipment have a section that tightens when the dogs pull. Adjusted correctly, dogs cannot twist, buck, or squeak out backwards.

Tightened, the collars cannot pass over the jaw, and harnesses tighten behind the shoulder blades. For pullers who clip at the front, we can use a Martingale collar as well.

Fail-safe equipment available for $2

Rather than risk an escape, we can provide fail-safe equipment for a $2 rental fee ~ waived for your first month ~ until you have a chance to get your own.

Look for simple designs that fit so that loops cannot close completely. There should be a 1″ – 2″ gap that makes the mechanics effective.

Check out some options in East Van, below:

Angel Leather Martingales – available at Bosley’s on Fraser for $30 – $50, in sizes 12″ – 22″.

2 Hounds Designs Freedom No-Pull harness, available at Discover Dogs for $38 – $45

Biothane Waterproof Adjustable Martingale from Strange Tails (made right here in the ‘hood!) for $55 are sturdy and stylish 😉

Easy Maintenance

Martingales with a chain are great for loose leash training, but the metal can stain a light coat as it oxidizes. Clean them with a damp cloth and mild soap once a week to keep the oxidization from rubbing off.

Or try a fabric option, like the TopPaw Martingale on our model above, available at Petsmart online for $25. They do same day delivery. 😉
